Louise & Gerard’s Wedding

We were back in the stunning An Grianan Hotel in Burt (County Donegal) on Saturday night. It was Louise and Gerard’s big day – thanks to both of them for inviting us along to play a few tunes at their wedding reception. We always say it, but An Grianan is one of our favourite wedding venues, and definitely our favourite Donegal venue – hands down! The circular function room is just stunning, plus it keeps the crowd together well and has great acoustics – what’s not to like? Well worth checking out if you’re looking for a reception venue in the Derry or Donegal area.

Louise inspired this blog title, as it’s the name of the song she picked for the father / daughter dance with her Dad Peter.  She picked Christy Moore’s fantastic version of Bright Blue Rose, which we played straight after the first dance.

Before that we kicked things off with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s beautiful ‘It’s Your Love’ for Louise and Gerard’s first dance.  We got the bridal party on to join them half way, and then had the father / dance next.  We were chatting to a few people before we setup, and there some requests for jiving, so we sped things up with our version of Derek Ryan’s Pick A Bale – which filled the floor! 🙂  The floor stayed pretty full for a good while, and then the bar called louder than us! lol  That gave us a chance to play a birthday request, as somebody asked for the Rolling Stones – and we love playing Honky Tonk Women.  It didn’t take long to get the floor filled again, and it stayed full right until our last song at 2am!

Thanks again to Louise and Gerard for booking us.  It was great to meet them both, and hear all about their big day.  Also, great to find out that Gerard only lives a few miles up the road from me! (Rod)  We’ll sign off by wishing them well on their honeymoon.  They’ve booked a Caribbean cruise for May, which is definitely something to look forward to – have a great time guys!
